Pickett completed 20 of 28 attempts for 174 yards and he threw several lasers in key moments like Pickens' two-point conversion to give the Steelers a 24-17 lead.
INDIANAPOLIS-- On a night when both offenses plodded to maintain any instigation at times, it was the Pittsburgh Steelers' 11- play, 75- yard scoring drive late in the third quarter and early in the fourth that proved decisive in a 24- 17 palm over the Indianapolis fledglings on Monday night. palm
Pittsburgh novitiate quarterback Kenny Pickett and the Steelers' ground game, as well as the fledglings' obnoxious inefficiency, led to a 16- 3 Steelers halftime lead and the fledglings offered a comeback that compactly gave them an advantage, but it was not enough.
The Steelers( 4- 7) have won two of their last three and the fledglings( 4-7-1) have lost two of three under interim trainer Jeff Saturday.
Pittsburgh Steelers
For the alternate week in a row, the Steelers put points on the board beforehand only to see their advantage slip down snappily with poor performance after halftime. This time, however, the Steelers held on for the palm. Before Monday night, the Steelers were 0- 6 entering the fourth quarter. Only the Rams( 0- 7) have gone more without a palm when running after three diggings this season.
The Steelers' lead faded after halftime as the defense gave up 152 third-quarter yards to Matt Ryan and the fledglings and the Steelers failed to move the ball. The same issues that agonized the Steelers all season surfaced throughout the game-- red zone effectiveness, giving up big plays-- but this time, the Steelers held the fledglings to fourth- and- three to reduce the successions to 30. Seconds left to seal the palm.
QB Breakdown Although Pickett still had some delicacy issues, missing a wide-open George Pickens in the end zone, and had no completions in the third quarter, the novitiate turned in his stylish performance to lead the Steelers to a fourth-quarter comeback. Pickett completed 20 of 28 attempts for 174 yards and he threw several spotlights in crucial moments like Pickens' two-point conversion to give the Steelers a 24- 17 lead. He also set up Deontay Johnson for an eight-yard gain on alternate down as the fledglings stayed calm under pressure. On the coming play, he hit Pat Freiermuth down the sideline for a 17- yard gain to convert on third- and- six. The Steelers scored many plays latterly to recapture the lead with a Benny Snell touchdown.
Disquieting trend After amassing 232 yards and 16 first campo in the first half for a 16- 3 lead, the Steelers ran just eight obnoxious plays in the third quarter and gained 18 total yards. The Steelers did not have a first down in the third quarter, although they converted a third down on the first play of the fourth quarter with a big pass from Pickett to George Pickens. As the offense faltered, the defense, which had held the fledglings to zero yards in the first quarter, wore down and lost the lead-- and nearly gave up two touchdowns, if not for Colt's bobble near the thing line.
gray filling Starting running back Naji Harris, who scored his third touchdown in two games in the first half, missed the alternate half with an abdominal injury interior through the alternate quarter. The Steelers were formerly without top reserve back Jaylen Warren, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury but added running back depth Monday night. Anthony McFarland, active all season for the first time, finished with 30 yards on six carries, and Benny Snell Jr., typically a special brigades player, had 62 yards and his first touchdown on 12 carries since the 2020 season. The Steelers finished with 172 rushing yards, a normal of 4.8 yards per carry- and have now scored two rushing touchdowns in three straight games, their longest band since 2018. -- Brooke Pryor
Under the radar status, Pickett has gone three straight games without a development after committing nine in his first five games.

Indianapolis fledglings
A horrible first half and some curious late-game timepiece operation was the lasting image for the fledglings in this game. Indianapolis' slow launch was remarkable. It's the third time this season a platoon has been held to zero or smaller yards in the first quarter, two of which involved the fledglings( they also did it against the Loyalists in Week 9). By the time the fledglings awoke from their slumber, they faced a 16- 3 halftime deficiency.
But they rallied to take a 17- 16 lead before pulling down late. There will be questions about Colt's approach in the final twinkles. They faced a fourth down from the Pittsburgh 37 with 2 twinkles left-- which they converted-- but lost 36 seconds between their coming first- and alternate-down plays. They eventually ended up with a quick play on third down before taking a downtime with 30 seconds left. The fledglings were stopped on fourth down.
Disquieting trend Although quarterback Matt Ryan was charged with fumbling, it appears running back Jonathan Taylor made a mistake on their muffed exchange near the thing line late in the third quarter. This is a durability of Taylor's ball security issues this season. Taylor has a history of fumbling at the University of Wisconsin but has three fumbles in nine games this season. Taylor had four fumbles in 2021, but that came after a league-high 332 carries. He's on pace for an advanced aggregate in 2022.
QB Breakdown Ryan was under constant pressure in the first half, with the Steelers obliging him on 53 of his dropbacks. As the result, Ryan completed 5 of 13 passes for 36 yards. The pressure eased as the obnoxious line settled down a bit in the alternate half, allowing Ryan to complete 17 of 21 attempts after halftime. The fledglings were also suitable to get some downfield shots, completing a brace of 28- yard passes to Michael Pittman Jr. and Jelani Woods.
The big play The fledglings' first-half obnoxious straits gave the print that Indianapolis might be headed for a shindig loss, but provisory guard back Dalys Flowers did his part by returning the alternate-half onset 89 yards. It set up a Taylor touchdown four plays latterly, but further, than that, it was the shot in the arm the fledglings desperately demanded on a night when yards were hard to come by. Flowers' punt return went for further yards than the fledglings' total yards( 71 yards) in the first half. -- Stephen Holder
Under the radar status, The Steelers have now won eight straight vs. the fledglings, the alternate-longest bands. the fledglings of any platoon. They track only the Dolphins, who won 14 straight from 1980- 87.
